My Inspiring High School Friend - And Osteotherapy and Cranio Sacral Therpay For Animals

When I used to hang out with my high school friends in Canada, one of my close friends Jackie introduced me to her family and took me horse back riding. Since then I often visited the Keams and their horses on weekends and occasionally after school.

Jackie´s younger sister Vickie was all about horses, saddlery, all the good ole country and western stuff, she did great bead work and her passion was very visible then.

Around The Globe Floods Bring Out The Best In Many

When I scroll through my FB news feed and other news channels I use these last weeks, they are full of tragedy, hardships and action around the huge floods that occur worldwide.

From little Alaskan town of Galena on the banks of the mighty Yukon river, that got nearly swept off the surface, to Czech Republic´s capital city of Prague.

The scenes, photographs and videos, but also heartbreaking articles of families losing everything, farm animals escaping from their pastures as rushing water sneaks in at night, to cats in flooded cabins, ZOO animals being evacuated, horses needed to be rescued by firemen from flooded stables, all this makes is hard to bare, hard to keep your mind away from it all, even when you sit thousands of miles away, in a dry place, with all your possessions intact, like me and my dogs.

But tragedy is not what I want to write about and I decided to write this post in honor of all those who help out during these hard times.

Seven Great Meals For A Healthy Canine Week

Howdy all!
Wow, it´s Friday already, how has your week been so far? I was crazy busy, as I decided to remodel our kitchen and because I seem to never be able to do only one thing at a time, I also did a number of gardening projects, washed pretty much everything in this house that is made of textile and with Jachym´s great help started steadily working on the bathroom makeover.

But this post isn´t about that. I also managed (I have no idea how, actually) to stay sane and despite almost all my appliances are all over the house, but the kitchen, prepare some pretty good meals for the dogs, mainly Granite, as he has his special dietary needs.
And because sharing means caring, I decided not to keep them for myself - isn´t that nice?! :)

Dandelion Greens: Natural And Free Supplement For Dogs' Great Health

In our part of the world everything just turned green nearly over night. And while things grow rapidly under the late night sun and white nights, I have been waiting patiently (and sometimes also not so patiently) for a number of wild herbs to show up.

One of them is my all time favorite DANDELION.
The young, fresh, great tasting leaves are out now and I am planning to make a salad for ourselves out of them.

But this post is not about my favorite wild food recipes, but rather about what we do with dandelions in  their different vegetation stages, in our canine kitchen.

Blueberry Buttermilk Healthy Breakfast Cake

I must confess I got inspired by another recipe for a blueberry buttermilk breakfast cake, BUT I heavily modified it by substituting most ingredients and I changed and adjusted amounts as well.

So here is my version of this delicious, but not so full of guilt sweet breakfast or morning snack. And since I eat sweets once a week, I feel even less guilty - because it´s Friday and Friday is my sweet day! :)

Reiki For Animals Lecture Invitation

Time certainly flies by so fast that all my planning for the spring projects finds me actually in the middle of the spring projects! :)

Soon we will be travelling south again, visiting our homeland Czech Republic and many friends and family after two long years. And during this trip I have a few exciting events to attend.

The first one is called Reiki For Animals and it is a lecture and a get together with fellow Reiki practicioners but also for all dog, cat, horse and other animal lovers interested in learning how this natural, holistic therapy can help your animal friends.

I am proud to share the news that I will be speaking about my 10+ years of experience of practicing REIKI of 1st and 2nd level on my dogs, cats and horse as well as how this therapy and philosophy changed my life. I am even more proud and happy to let you know that the lecture is hosted by my dear friends Zdenek and Lidunka Musil, my REIKI teachers and two amazing human beings.
There will be loads of space for discussion and Q&A and it will be accompanied by Jachym´s photography of the Nordic Nature and Wildlife.

So welcome - Monday, May 6, at 5:00pm, at the Musil´s Traditional REIKI School in Prague, Czech Republic. Please send Zdenek an email confirming your participation or with questions, at: reikicz@volny.czOh, and it´s totally FREE!!! :)

Plus I will be bringing a few CDs with my book Feeding Your Pets The Natural Way (both in English and Czech) for sale for a special offer price.

I am really excited and can´t wait!

Leftover Oatmeal Smoothie Rich In Antioxidants

In our home, we often have leftover oatmeal from the breakfast. We are big on oatmeals and different cereal porridges, especially over fall and winter time. In a land with 7 months of snow and subzero temperatures, it is an excellent and valuable nutrition, that warms you from inside out and prepares you for the day spent mostly outdoors, running dogs and doing all kinds of chores around the farm.

We do porridges mostly from oat flakes, but often use also pearled graham, barley, polenta, rice flour, and add all kinds of seeds, nuts, almonds, sometimes raisins and apples. And of course the super healthy, my all time favorite cinnamon :)

A Few Great Gardening Ideas

As the season of snow and ice slowly comes to an end, I often find myself turning my mind towards another favorite season of mine - gardening!

Gardening is something that we started to take more seriously in the past couple years as we proceed on our journey to self sufficiency and natural health.

Amundsen Race 2013

The Amundsen Race 300 (200 miles) starts this Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM in our home town of Stromsund, Sweden!

Unfortunately, we had to withdraw from this race we´ve been looking forward to the whole year, and training hard for the entire fall and part of winter season. It literally runs over our training trails and would have been fun to see the dogs race on their home ground.

But I couldn´t stay away from the race, with teams crossing close by our house and kennel, so I decided to volunteer and give a hand with various task during the entire race. It is a nice way to give back to the mushing community when I have a chance and time. It isn´t very often that I could spare time in the middle of training and racing season. So it´s a payback time now :)

Team House Dogs Trail Report

Team House Dogs trail report:

Weather is awesome, snow is cool and soft and at some parts pretty deep. The hiking trails are perfect for us dogs.

The two legged members of the team keep slowing us down as they struggle on the narrow path.

Mouse is lazy, walks only in other dogs´s tracks. The border collie is crazy and cheeky and too fast to take pictures of and the shepherd too busy sticking to her human mom.

Two People, Two Dogs and Six Loads of Sh...PEEP

I truly regret not having pictures to go along with this post. They would make you laugh. They would make you feel inspired. And most definitely they would make you wonder about our mental health.

Let me assure you that we are mentally fit. At least we think so, although I guess that it could be a topic for debate, because living alone in the middle of nowhere with 60 dogs, not seeing much of other human beings and not leaving the land of woods and lakes for literary years, can actually effect our sanity.

Weather crazy or not, we at least know for sure, that we are physically fit. We have tested that numerous times and ultimately yesterday.

The Perfect Valentine´s Day Gift To Dog Lovers

While my DIY oriented mind has been thinking what Valentine´s Day presents you could make for your loved ones, I came up with a gift idea for your four-legged darlings.

In my native language they say that loves goes through the stomach, and your dog will most of all the great gifts appreciate something delicious to eat, so I decided to post and share with you one of the recipes from my new e-book Feeding Your Pets The Natural Way - Recipes, Remedies and Health Tips from Katerina´s Canine Kitchen.

And that´s not all! I have also decided to give all of you animal lovers a special Valentine´s Day discount of 25% when you purchase my book until tomorrow - February 14, midnight CET.

Nutella Banana Sushi

The moment I saw this picture, my taste buds jumped. Or whatever it is they do. At any case, they started the drooling process.

Then I read the words: NUTELLA (NUTELLA!) BANANA and I was hooked.

I came across this recipe on Pinterest and it was simply too good to pass by without notice. And without sharing. Because sharing is caring, right?!

The Mush Girls Aka Sled Dog Babes

Star and Sherwood´s babies are already three weeks old, would you believe that?!

Usually, we play around with puppy names and litter themes in advance, or right after they are born. With this litter, well, things were quite different.
First we were not sure how many will be alive after the complicated c-section (more on that in a separate post).
